Pillow Options for the Maxwell

Pillow Options for the Maxwell

I have a terrible time choosing settling on pillows for my home.  There are so many different options, depending on the feeling you’re going for, to choose from…transitional, traditional, fun & flirty, etc.  I would like to call my style transitional–love a little from the present and the past.  I have been playing with pillow ideas for my Maxwell Leather sofa from Restoration hardware, and I have gone on and on for months trying to narrow it down.  I think I should just turn into one of those people who change their pillows at least once every season.  At least that way I could test out all these great design ideas.  The nice thing about most of these pillows (there’s just one from target.com) is that they are from etsy.com. I love to go to etsy for pillows–homemade pieces that most people do not have!  I haven’t settled on one look yet–hoping to get some input–what do you think??  #1, 2, 3, or 4??

Iphone Button Trinkets

Iphone Button Trinkets
One of the best things about being a girl is having our fair share of accessories.  The other day while ‘bay browsing on ebay I came across these cute iPhone button covers out of China.  They are just the cutest things and are all reasonably priced – on average they are about $2!!  I couldn’t help myself, so not only did I buy a few for myself, but I starting buying them as little gifts for my girlfriends. I love being able to give a girlfriend a cute girly gift such as this–and it really doesn’t cost much.  The colors are vibrant and the quality is excellent–I will have to admit I was concerned about the quality coming out of China.  I featured some of my favorite button covers, but they really have a large variety on ebay.  Just put in “iphone button covers” in the search and tons of listings will come up.  Here are two of my favorite ebay sellers for iPhone buttons:

Emerald Green 39.00 Handmade Statement Necklace Daisy

I’m not sure how this mother of four does it, but Danielle Carroll, of Imperfectly Perfect, manages to make time to produce these exquisitely beautiful necklaces that remind me very much of the necklaces I would find at my obsession, Jcrew.  She also manages to do it at a fraction of the cost.  This Emerald Green Daisy Statement necklace is only $39.00.  You guys all know that I love etsy.com because I think there is something special about wearing handmade pieces made with “love” just for you.  :-)   Well, this shop is just another reason why I love etsy! While you stop in….don’t forget to check out her Bubble necklaces!

Jcrew Preppy? Not Exactly!

20120714-131755.jpg

Headed out tonight and decided to wear my Jcrew Wyatt Buckle heels that I grabbed for $65! These Italian leather babies retailed for $268 last summer but eventually went on sale for $89.99 with an additional 30% off. I wasn’t sure how they would fit, but now I wish I bought every color! The straps are adjustable, decent heel height, and the leather is butter-soft. They sold out quickly after going ob sale. Every time I look at these shoes it reminds me of how much Jcrew has evolved over the years. They are certainly well passed the preppy catalog company I used to buy from in college. Whenever I feel like dressing downtown Brooklyn chic, I can quickly mix and match my Jcrew pieces to achieve just that!

Keep ‘crewin, tm2

Colored Skinny Jeans On A Budget – Just USA Denim

20120707-122626.jpg

I kept delaying a post on these jeans because I wanted to wait until they had been tried and tested before giving a review. And of course, I came in with low expectations because they were only $29.99, but I have to admit it is a good no great pair of jeans!
A few months ago, I accompanied my sister on a shopping trip to her favorite Brooklyn boutique. We have been frequenting this place for about ten years and they have never disappointed us. They are known for their great designer pieces for very pocket-friendly prices. There are many times when you aren’t familiar with the designer name but you know you have a special piece in your hand with just one glance. I knew this place was a big deal when my sister swore me to secrecy.
Anyhow, on this particlar shopping trip, the boutique, once again, did not disappoint. Among the many pieces purchased that day were a pair of cobalt blue colorful skinny jeans by a denim brand called Just USA. My sister spotted them first, as she normally does (she is a skilled and trained shopper). But being the skeptical little sister, I said “I’ve never heard of these and we don’t have time to try them on”. She responded, “For $29.99 they can’t fit any worse than those target jeans you bought. Besides, we can always return it”. She was right! I had a “retail moment” a few days before and picked up some red Skinny Jeans at Target for the same price! Big mistake! Can we say TERRI-BLE!!! The fit was all off, and although I am known to find some good things at the Red Dot Boutique, I quickly learned that those jeans would not be one of them. So in this case, I listened to big sis and kept it moving. She grabbed a pair and so did I, then we headed downstairs to the shoe section ( I can’t wait to post about the things we picked up there!!).
This was in the late Fall of 2011, and these jeans have been worn!!! Washed, worn, baby spit-up, toddler activity-worn! The blue is still the same hue as when I first purchased them, no fading as such. The fit was great- I took a size Five because it is somewhat of a Junior fit. It worked out great, a little loose but perfect for me to move around in. I am generally a 27/28 in jeans. After doing some research, I learned that this company is affiliated with the well know denim mavens themselves, the Marciano brothers (GUESS Inc)…it was beginning to all make sense. Since then, I have purchased a white pair for the summer on eBay.  I have found that it is not sold at a lot of places but eBay has them at great prices–$35.99 isn’t bad for quality color denim!  Check out these colored ones here.
So if you are looking to take part in this trend before it disappears (here today, gone tomorrow) and do not want to spend over $100, I suggest you take a close look at this brand. My sister wore them that evening to dinner with her girlfriends and she complimented the fit an quality of the jeans.
Note: Just USA denim has a variety of styles which are all labeled by style number. The style number for their colored jeans are PS215 and I can say that it is comparable to Joe Jeans Chelsea Skinny Jeans.

Stay trendy, tm2

Etsy Shop Feature – seejewelryonline

Bella Long Gold Chunky Triple Chain

I have received a few emails offline about this particular necklace that I am seen wearing a few posts back.  It was an etsy.com shop purchase from seejewelryonlineI like to shop at etsy.com (ebay’s sister store) because I like the idea of supporting people who actually “make” things.  It’s not a factory, but a human touch.

My particular purchase is the Bella Long Gold Chunky Triple Chain.  Another popular blogger (Atlantic-Pacific) wears a very similar one and I love how it adds a special finish to any look.  It allows you to layer your accessories (an absolute must) with just one piece!  How simple is that!

I purchased this as a reward to myself for restraining from shopping during Lent.  I think it is very reasonably priced, good quality, and not too shiny or gawky.  Catherine B, the owner of seejewelryonline, is a very pleasant vendor and I was very happy with her service and speedy delivery!

‘Til next time, tm2

Jcrew Medallion Top

Medallion Top

I purchased this top in the summer of 2009–still very happy with this top and still receive tons of compliments 3 years later! When searching for vintage (lol) pieces like this, always try ebay first! Your second move should be the Jcrew Aficionada Great Weekly Exchange “looking to find” posts. You can find that link here.

eBay browsing…

20120506-192051.jpg

I am really good at spotting eBay sellers who live near a Jcrew warehouse. They tend to have tons of in season items at discount prices. I scored this Jcrew skirt (only 39.99!!!!) at one of those very sellers. The quality of the skirt is a high-end silk blend and was very nice. It is similar to the Jcrew Dorothy floral print silk skirt seen here, but has a slighltly different floral pattern. In fact, I like my pattern better for the summer. This skirt retailed for $325 so I am very happy with my “‘bay browsing” discount.

I ended up wearing it for Afternoon Tea with author Rachel Swarns, Author of “American Tapestry: The Story of the Black, White & Multiracial Ancestors of Michelle Obama”. It was a great discussion with a group of wonderful ladies representing a range of generations. The book release date is June 19the but can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.
Oh and yes, that Jcrew envelope purse was also an eBay find!
